2011 MINI Paceman Concept
[ Wednesday, December 22nd, 2010 | by automotiveroom | under CAR, MINI, New Cars ]The MINI Paceman Concept A MINI Sports Activity Coupé – urban and masculine. study establishes a new category of car combining the fundamental MINI DNA – dynamic capability, individual design – and gives them a fresh twist with the help of cutting edge technology and an innovative new body concept. The MINI Paceman combines the classical MINI concept with the defining features of the MINI Countryman and the style of a coupe. The result is a MINI with visual ‘muscle car’ design cues, displaying its dynamic capability from every angle.
The 2011 MINI Countryman is the first four-door in the British brand’s lineup–but a new two-door version could be in the works, if the MINI Paceman concept is any indication.
MINI Paceman Concept has been designed to allow the most powerful drive unit currently available for a MINI to be fitted under the bonnet. The MINI John Cooper Works 1.6-litre twin-scroll turbocharged engine gives the MINI Paceman Concept the means to achieve top-class levels of sports performance. The four-cylinder unit develops 155 kW/211 hp and generates maximum torque of 260 Nm (192 lb-ft), which can be increased to as much as 280 Nm (207 lb-ft) in brief bursts thanks to the Overboost function.
Styling of the Paceman is described by Mini as urban, sporting and masculine. The idea of an urban off-roader seems oxymoronic, possibly even light on the “oxy” part, but it’s hard to deny that our initial peek does look interesting. The renderings make us think that every panel on the car is bespoke. If the Paceman does see production, odds are it will share some pieces with other Mini offerings for cost saving.
The interior already looks as if it shares some pieces with the Countryman using the same dual center rail system and four individual seats. The styling is classic Mini featuring a large center-mounted speedometer and large round air vents. The martini holders look to be a new touch, obviously a necessity for attracting the urban, rugged, masculine demographic Mini is shooting for with this crossover.
